The Oxidation Of Jubatus, Wire & Re-Bar 2000 Otjiwarongo, Namibia

I made this piece while living and studying with The Cheetah Conservation Fund. The Sculpture was built entirely from a roll of 18 Gauge tie wire I found on top of the chicken coop, and the interior frame was made out of rebar swiped from the fences surrounding our farm.

There are no welds in the sculpture itself, only the square platform was welded. I had finished the sculpture and drove it into town, found a muffler shop and convinced them to let me use one of their welders.  All the shop workers watch as I welded my sculpture in shorts and flip flops.

Vitality Amidst Encroachment

Steel and Screen Printed Plates, 2001

This sculpture is about the issue of  habitat fragmentation and the mountain lion. Amid intense environmental pressure and habitat loss, this species is managing to expand territory, adapt and in some cases even thrive. This sculpture is a tribute to these incredible animals. The base is made up of 3 topo maps pieced together supporting the mountain lion.
